DAN Instructors are scuba diving educators who want to offer dive safety programs to their students.  To become a DAN Instructor, you must participate in a DAN Instructor Qualification Course (IQC).

To be a DAN Instructor, you must be a Dive Instructor with a recognized training agency or a leadership-level diver (exp:  Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or DiveCon) with a recognized recreational scuba training agency and a CPR/First Aid Instructor.  To teach AEDS, Oxygen for Aquatics and Advanced Oxygen) you will also need to be a CPR Instructor.

You will also need to be a DAN Member.

You will need to complete the CORE Module exam at the end and present the certificate you receive to your Trainer.  Please print it out.

After completing the Core Module, online, you will take the appropriate course modules for the programs you are interested in teaching.
The IQC follows a modular format.  There is a Core Module and then a separate module representing each training program.  You can take the Core Module and one course module - whatever you are interested in teaching.  Later, as long as you remain a current and active DAN Instructor, you can take additional modules without retaking the Core Module.

Pre-requisites for DAN Instructor Qualification Course:

  • Be a current DAN Member.

  • Be current in every DAN Provider course for training, within 24 months in all courses the candidate plans to attend

  • Be a certified and active Scuba Diving Educator (Divemasters & Assistant Instructors, DiveCons)

  • Current CPR Instructor

  • Documentation of First Aid training

Required Materials for all courses:

  • DAN Student materials for each course the instructor plans to teach.

  • DAN Instructor packet for each course the instructor plans to teach.

DAN On-Site Neurological Assessment for Divers

Learn how to conduct a neurological assessment on a potentially injured diver in this course. The information gained in this assessment can help convince a diver of the need for oxygen first aid, and help a dive physician determine the proper treatment.

Approximately two-thirds of divers with decompression illness have evidence of damage to the nervous system. These signs are often vague and can go unrecognized by the diver. This can cause them to be dismissed as insignificant or not dive-related.

Course Fee:  $80.00 (Additional materials, fees and expenses may be required and are not included)

Pre-requisites:  Successful completion of a Instructor Qualification Course (IQC).
